Friends of CSIRO was formed around mid-March 2016 to oppose the job and funding cuts which CSIRO has been subject to in recent years. We have members in Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Sydney and Hobart. Friends of CSIRO were very active in the lead up to the 2016 federal election campaign focussing in particular in marginal electorates.
We welcome contact from people in other cities - join us and support CSIRO as a research organisation with international quality researchers and one which is enabled to undertake long-term public good research.
Friends of CSIRO has held forums regarding the impact that the proposed CISRO cuts will have on Australia's research capacity, in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Tasmania, and Brisbane. We hold regular meetings in these cities, where Friends of CSIRO groups meet to coordinate actions and events. Sign on to our mailing list to find out more.
Friends of CSIRO has asked the Liberal, Labor, Greens, National and Xenophon parties, as well as Independent Senators and members to commit to opposing or reversing the staffing and funding cuts to CSIRO.
We will be campaigning in the next term of government to protect public good research and reverse the devastating job cuts proposed to CSIRO.
